American adventures; Climbing in Bishop, CA

It’s that time of year again when I up sticks and go on some adventures of my own πŸ™‚ This year like last year I've flown across the world to California USA for some of the best rock climbing I've ever experienced. We picked up our Lost Campers van and got out of LA as soon as we could (I will never get used to the 5 lane motorways running through cities!). Our destination was Bishop home of the Buttermilks, Happys and Sads and the Druid Stones climbing areas. Bishop is a lovely little frontier feel town with incredible mountain vistas and hot springs πŸ™‚

We spent out first couple of days here recovering from jet lag, we sat next to a lady with the plague on the plane, and getting back into the climbing, which can be a bit sharp and high at times, and confusing the locals in the looney bean coffee shop with our accents and getting strange looks taking pictures of pickled pigs feet in Vons supermarket (pickled pigs feet! who wouldn’t take a photo of that)

I think I ate too many mince pies over the Christmas holidays as the 45min walk in up a mountain to the Druid Stones, a lovely quiet climbing area, felt really really hard, I’m blaming the altitude… The view from the top and the climbing was worth it though with some amazing rock formations. We eventually had to retreat when frostbite looked like a distinct possibility with freezing winds whipping round the boulders. Bring on the hot springs!
